Nurture your adventurous side during your visit to the Redwood Coast. The North Coast Adventure Centers is the area’s leader in guided outdoor adventures. We’ll set up a Redwood Canopy Tour with them for you and your partner to venture 70 to 100 feet up into the tops of the Majestic Redwoods in Arcata’s Redwood Park. You’ll begin with some basic safety training on maneuvering through the canopy. Then, you will ascend in to the beautiful Redwood Canopy to ride a series of ziplines. HUMBOLDT BAY HARBOR CRUISE

Take a step back in time on the ” Madaket.” This 1910 motor vessel is one of Humboldt Bay’s original ferries that transported mill workers and families around the bay. Take a narrated tour of the harbor during your stay at the Carter House Inns. This package includes a harbor tour for two, a Really Nice Room, wine and hors d’ oeuvres before dinner, cookies and tea in the evening, and a two course breakfast. This package is available Wednesday through Sunday from May 13th to October 2nd. Cruise times are: 1pm, 2:30pm, and 4pm as well as a non-narrated cocktail cruise at 5:30. That’s right, the vessel has a bar! (only on the cocktail cruises). $255

This unique package provides an opportunity for you to enjoy a sport fishing trip on The Shellback with the North Coast’s most experienced sport fishing captain, Phil Glenn. This package includes an all day fishing trip, a fishing license, a really nice room, a sack lunch, wine and hors d’ oeuvres in the evening, cookies and tea before bedtime, and a two-course breakfast. With a wine list boasting over 3400 selections and a season-driven menu that changes as often as our crops in the garden, you will find dining with us a delightful experience.

We offer our dining guests the option to select from an A La Carte Menu or embark on the culinary excellence of the Discovery Menu or the Chef’s Grand Menu — tasting experiences that include wine pairings with all of the delicious courses, each one more fabulous than the last.

Currently all of our menus feature expressions of Late summer on the Redwood Coast. From our Grilled Beet Salad and succulent Chef’s Choice Ceviche on the appetizer selections to the delicious main course presentation of Roasted Lobster Medallions, these offerings and more are prepared for you with care from Chef Cory Smith.

We have long been supporters of our local farmer’s markets, and individual farms, who provide us with the most wonderful fresh cheeses, meats, seafood, vegetables and local wine. We pay hommage to those who do that for us. We have created a strong network with other restaurants on the West Coast that have always believed in the same philosophy including Sinclair and Frederika Philip at the Sooke Harbor House on Vancouver Island; Ron Zimmerman and Carrie Van Zant at The Herbfarm in Seattle; and Alice Waters at Chez Panisse in Berkeley. Naturally, we are strong proponents of the Slow Food movement, since that is all we have ever done.

We take our wine as seriously as our food. We have been proud recipients of the Wine Spectator Grand Award for the last eleven years. This prestigious honor is only bestowed upon 74 other restaurants in the world. We have extensive depth and breadth on our wine list, which receives the Grand Award for not only its bountiful selections, but also for its quality. We offer wine and food pairing each evening, or our talented servers can help you select the perfect bottle to go with your meal.

With respect to taking our wine seriously — we’ve been making our own since 1998, the first year we were honored with the Grand Award. Carter Cellars’ Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot has been noticed by Wine and Spirit magazine, Wine Spectator magazine, Wine Enthusias. Just recently, Robert Parker scored our 2002 Beckstoffer To Kalon Cabernet Sauvignon at 100 Points! Carter Cellars is now made at our beautiful winery Envy Wines in Napa Valley (Calistoga) California, a joint venture between wine legend Nils Venge and Mark Carter. Stop in and taste the Envy line up in addition to Carter Cellars on your way from the Bay Area to the Redwood Coast. Mark makes the trip once a week, you could see him in either place.
